In September 2024, I participated in the HackBio internship program, where I focused on the Data Science/Machine Learning Engineer track. During the program, I progressed through four stages that enhanced my technical expertise and teamwork capabilities. Though I did not complete Stage 4, the experience in the earlier stages proved invaluable, allowing me to apply my skills in real-world scenarios and expand my knowledge of bioinformatics, machine learning, and scientific research.
Stage 0: Article Writing
I developed scientific writing skills and learned to synthesize research effectively, communicating technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Stage 1: Paper Summary
Through this stage, I honed my critical thinking and data interpretation skills, learning to summarize complex scientific papers with precision and clarity.
Stage 2: Gene Expression Analysis
I gained hands-on experience in gene expression analysis, including RNA-seq data preprocessing and the use of bioinformatics tools to conduct differential expression analysis.
Stage 3: Machine Learning and Biomarker Discovery
In this stage, I integrated machine learning techniques with differential gene expression analysis to identify key biomarkers in Lymphoid Leukemia, further strengthening my skills in feature selection and biomarker discovery.
This internship provided me with hands-on experience in data science and machine learning, equipping me with the tools necessary for advanced bioinformatics analysis and enhancing my ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
